Raising an Intuitive Eater

Teaching my girl there are no “bad” foods!

Eating disorders have genetic AND environmental links. It’s so important to me that I raise Grace in an environment that is anti-diet culture and pro-body positive.

What are some key ways we can prevent creating an environment that fosters disordered eating in our kids?

🍨 Do NOT make negative comments about your own weight, others’ weight, or your child’s weight

🍨Never label foods as “good” or “bad”

🍨 Do NOT use food as a reward or punishment

🍨 Set a good example by not following fad diets or strict workout regimens

🍨 Use compliments that focus on non-physical traits

🍨 Avoid being overly focused on counting calories, macros, carbs, sugars, etc.

🍨 Do NOT restrict certain foods for yourself or your child

🍨 Use positive language when referring to exercise — “I want to workout today to feel stronger” not “Mommy HAS to workout today, I feel gross”

🍨 Avoid making your child clean their plate when full — give them a chance to develop intuitive eating!
